Are you looking for a horse that has ‘been there and done that’ but will also teach you or your child how to ride effectively and calmly? Always come home safe from cross country, but enough of a challenge that there’s still that feeling of accomplishment?

Doc is your man!

Competed to grade 2/eva95 with previous owner including State Trials in 2018, he was then turned out due to owners changed circumstances for 4 years before finding his way to me.

I have been riding Doc since the start of the year and have fallen in love, but truly think he is ready to teach a young rider the ropes of eventing. He isn’t push button, he’s forward moving and has a super soft mouth, and he makes you work to bring out his best as he won’t tolerate bad riding, but he will teach your child so much and make them a damn good rider!

On the flat Doc has amazing expressive movement, always getting comments from coaches and judges alike for his supple front end in trot and canter. He can produce a killer dressage test, accurate off the aids and super focused on the job, but if you go into the ring tense and anxious, he will tense up too! He is a horse that feeds off his riders emotions, and needs you to remain calm and collected. He won’t ride the test for you, but if you ride him properly he will give it his all. Scores currently sitting in the mid 60s for our two novice tests together with room to improve. Attending regular dressage lessons, he has all the buttons to keep going further in the dressage world, they’re just a bit rusty, and is pretty enough to make a decent show hack as well!

Over jumps Doc is a machine, snappy front end and brave. He’s forward and keen, but also has excellent brakes and is always ridden in a snaffle. Doc is very much ‘point, shoot, and don’t over ride’. I have had to learn to ride his jumping style as he likes his rider to sit still and leave him alone! Again, if you ride him tense and hot, he will be tense and hot, but if you sit calmly so will he!

To handle on the ground Doc is an angel, self loads on the float, sleeps with the farrier, worm, rug, etc. He does however like to use people as scratching posts so does need to be told off occasionally!

Doc is a wind sucker but is controlled with a collar.

Fairly easy keeper for an OTTB, given his history he needs to gain muscle and so is fed more now than he would need as a maintenance feed. He is also on basic joint supplements as a preventative measure due to his age.

Doc is NOT a beginners horse, nor is he the right match for nervous or rough riders. He would be best suited to a young rider moving up from a speedy pony, wanting something to finesse their skills and help them become a great rider for their next horse, while eventing grade 3 and maybe 2. I don’t want to send him somewhere that will keep asking him to event higher, he is sound and healthy now and I want him to stay that way, not keep going until he breaks down, hence why I’m not keeping him for myself to go higher with. Doc is special to me and to others, he hasn’t always been properly cared for and he truly deserves to find his perfect home.

Available after March 13th, he will be attending State Trials in grade 2, I am not riding him to be competitive as it will be our fifth event together and third grade 2!

Jumping footage available below and will be getting updated flatwork footage this week
